Ola and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Maharashtra Sign MoU to Create 10,000 Job Opportunities in the State

Aligned with the State Government’s commitment to boost entrepreneurial opportunities, Ola to provide livelihood opportunities to 10,000 youth in Maharashtra

    Under the partnership, Ola will work with State Government’s wide network of industrial training institutes, vocational training institutions as well as affiliated private vocational training providers and NGOs

Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department (SDED), Government of Maharashtra and Ola, India’s leading and one of the world’s largest ride-sharing companies have signed an MoU to create 10,000 entrepreneurial opportunities in the state. The MoU was signed by Sandeep Divakaran, CFO of Ola Fleet Technologies (OFT) in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis and other members of the Ministry and many other eminent dignitaries.

In line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Skill India initiative, the MOU is focused towards training, skill development and empowerment of 10,000 driver partners in the next 2 years. As part of this initiative, Ola will work closely with the State’s Skill Development Department in providing essential utilities and technology framework that will ensure an improved employment plan for the youth of Maharashtra.

Aseem Gupta, IAS Principal Secretary, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Development, GoM, said, “In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision, Government of Maharashtra also has prioritized the Skill Development mission and set a vision of equipping 45 million Indians with employable skills by the year 2022. Our Partnership with companies such as Ola, that has added a new dimension to transportation in India, is in keeping with this vision. This project will mobilize candidates from various sections of the society and has the potential to significantly improve livelihoods and contribute to the economic growth of the people of our country.”

Sandeep Divakaran, CFO, Ola Fleet Technologies said, “We are proud to work together with the Government to train and provide the right skill set to thousands of men and women across Maharashtra and help them take their first step towards entrepreneurship. The growth in the country’s mobility sector has opened up ample opportunities and as country’s leading mobility player, we are proud to be the enabler in providing this platform to the aspiring entrepreneurs. Government’s focus on economic development and employment generation will add impetus to its efforts in creating an enabling environment for the unemployed.”

Ola is successfully operational in 9 cities (Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Amravati, Kolhapur, Solapur and Aurangabad) in the state of Maharashtra with various offerings including the likes of Ola Micro, Ola Mini, Ola Prime, Ola Share, Kaali Peelis, Ola Rentals, Ola Outstation and Ola Auto. This association with Government of Maharashtra will enable thousands of men and women to take their first step towards entrepreneurship. Ola will also aid in giving better access to training, enable digital and financial inclusion, as well as other benefits such as insurance to existing driver-partners.

Ola is deeply committed to Government of India’s skill development initiative and has rolled out several programmes to promote entrepreneurial growth and opportunities across the country. Ola has tied up with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and RISE India to skill 50 lakh drivers by 2020 and has committed Rs. 100 crore towards the initiative. As part of the initiative, Ola and RISE India will set up 500 driver training centres across the country.
