Maersk drops 10 Chinese ports

MaerskMaersk Line, world’s largest container shipper, has decided to stop its feeder operations to 10 Chinese ports to cut costs. These are Chizhou, Luzhou, Yueyang, Yingkou, Jinzhou, Jiaoxin, Rizhao, Lijiao, Taiping and Nansha old port.

In early 2016, 2M Alliance – a partnership between Maersk and MSC, had announced cost cutting by reducing its Asia-North Europe port calls from 95 to 83. Maersk Line is expected to post a loss of US $67 million this year, owing to slow down in global growth and drop in freight rates in the first half of 2016 and due to the addition of new and large vessels to the market.
