Evasive Manuever Assist (EMA) is the new technology on the block for CVs. WABCO and ZF have developed this together enabling autonomous driving in the concerned sector. This technology, combining braking, stability and vehicle dynamics control systems on trucks and trailers – the hallmark of WABCO – with active steering technology of ZF.
The EMA works in the way that a radar sensor identifies moving or stationary vehicles ahead and alerts the driver of impending rear-end collisions using visual, audio and haptic signals. Critical driving situations may include traffic jams appearing suddenly after curves or when the roads are wet offering low friction.
The EMA was demonstrated for the first time end of June 2016 in Germany.
