V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust inks Memorandum of Understanding with Solar Energy Corporation of India for installation of 5MW Solar Power Plant

Anantha Chandra Bose, Chairman, V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust and Dr.Ashvini Kumar, Managing Director, Solar Energy Corporation of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 24.08.2016, in the presence of  Shri.Upendra Tripathy, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of New & renewable Energy, for installation of 5MW direct grid connect type solar power plant at V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust under Power Purchase Mode.

The 5MW Solar Power Plant will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs.30.00 Crores by SECI, New Delhi. The project will be completed by March, 2017. The expected annual power generation from the 5MW solar power plant will be 7.5 million units per year. Reduction of carbon emission by this project will be 8025 Metric Tons per year. This Project is a mile stone in environmental aspect since the solar power plant generate electricity without environmental pollution. The power generated by Solar Power plant will be fully utilized by V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust.

As a part of Green Port initiative, V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust , has already commissioned a 100 KW solar power plant at the roof top of the Administrative Building of V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust on 14.08.2015. The annual power generation of solar power from this 100KW solar power plant is 1.70 lakhs units.

Another 400KW Solar power plant is under installation on the roof top of various buildings of  V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust and expected to be commissioned during the month of October 2016. Expected power generation from 400KW solar power plant is 6,80,000 units per year. Reduction of carbon emission for 500KW solar power plant will be 910 metric tons per year.
